What Do Agencies & Freelancers Actually Charge? 2026 Rate Data

Rate benchmarks for 88 roles across 15 agency and freelance categories. Compiled from YunoJuno (261K+ contracts), SE Ranking (260 agencies), Arc.dev, Robert Half, and more.

"It depends" is the most common answer you'll get when asking what agencies or freelancers charge. It depends on the role, the seniority, the geography, the project type, the engagement model, and whether the person is working through a platform or directly.

That's true — but it's also a way of avoiding a number. Rates do vary. They also cluster. After analyzing data from YunoJuno (261,000+ contracts), SE Ranking's Agency Survey (260 agencies), AgencyAnalytics, MarketerHire, Arc.dev, ZipRecruiter, Robert Half, and GrowTal, the ranges are clear enough to plan against.

Here's what 88 roles across agency and freelance work actually charge in 2026.

The Patterns That Explain the Ranges

Platform vs. direct rates diverge by 30–50%. Upwork and Fiverr compress rates because of competition and volume. A developer charging $145/hr through a recruiter or direct referral might list themselves at $80–$90/hr on Upwork to stay competitive on search. The dataset uses off-platform and market data where possible.

Geography still matters, but less than it did. The US–UK–EU rate gap has compressed for remote-first roles. A senior full-stack developer in Warsaw or Porto now commands 65–80% of US rates, not 40% as it was five years ago.

Senior/lead rates are roughly 2–3x junior rates. This holds across nearly every category in the dataset. Junior SEO: $30–$50/hr. Senior SEO: $75–$150/hr. Junior developer: $50–$80/hr. Senior developer: $100–$200/hr.

Rising demand roles in 2026: AI engineers, fractional CMOs, data analysts, video editors, SEO specialists. Stable roles: PPC, UX design, Salesforce.
