Design & Creative Software Pricing in 2026: Adobe Rebranded, Affinity Went Free, and Nobody Told You

Adobe Creative Cloud rebranded to Standard/Pro in August 2025 — most review sites still show old names. Affinity went free in October 2024. CapCut Pro nearly doubled to $19.99/mo. Here's what design and creative software actually costs in March 2026.

Adobe renamed its most popular plan in August 2025. The "All Apps" plan you've referenced in every pricing comparison, budget justification, and vendor negotiation since 2012 no longer exists.

It was replaced by two tiers: Creative Cloud Standard ($59.99/mo, annual) and Creative Cloud Pro ($89.99/mo, annual). The Pro tier adds 4,000 Firefly AI generative credits per month and unlocks Adobe Express Premium. Standard gets 1,000 Firefly credits. Most review sites, comparison pages, and Reddit threads still show "Creative Cloud All Apps" — the old $54.99 price — because they haven't updated since the rebrand.

If you're benchmarking Adobe CC right now, you're likely looking at the wrong number.

That's one of seven significant pricing changes that happened in this category between mid-2024 and early 2026. We tracked pricing for 47 design and creative tools in March 2026 — graphic design, UI/UX, video editing, image editing, AI design tools, and 3D/motion. Here's the preview table, what changed, and where the real cost traps are.

What Changed in 2024–2026

Adobe restructured Creative Cloud — and the new tiers cost more.

The "All Apps" plan that ran at $54.99/mo (annual) was retired in August 2025. Creative Cloud Standard replaced it at $59.99/mo; Creative Cloud Pro runs $89.99/mo. For a team of 10 creative professionals, that's a $600/yr increase per seat for Standard. Adobe has not sent a broad communication to existing subscribers about the new tier names, which means most budget owners are comparing current invoices against outdated benchmarks.

Affinity went free — the biggest price drop in this category in years.

In October 2024, Canva completed its acquisition of Serif (the company behind Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Publisher) and made all three apps free to download. The bundle had been $164.99 for V2. Freelancers and small studios that were using Affinity as a one-time cost alternative to Adobe subscriptions can now use the same tools at zero ongoing cost. The catch: V2 perpetual licenses are no longer sold.

Final Cut Pro added a subscription track — and Cinema 4D dropped perpetual licenses entirely.

Apple introduced the Apple Creator Studio bundle in January 2026, adding a $12.99/mo subscription path alongside Final Cut Pro's $299.99 one-time purchase. The subscription gates some new AI-assisted editing features. The one-time purchase still works.

Cinema 4D, the 3D motion graphics standard in broadcast and advertising, eliminated perpetual licenses entirely in January 2024. Maxon's subscription runs $79.99/mo (annual), with no path to ownership.

The Hidden Costs That Don't Show on Pricing Pages

The Adobe Photoshop renewal trap. Adobe advertises Photoshop at $22.99/mo (annual plan). At renewal, the price moves to $29.99/mo. The Photography Plan ($19.99/mo, includes Lightroom) is currently cheaper than a standalone Photoshop renewal — an unintuitive fact that most buyers miss.

Midjourney's absent free tier. Every other AI image generation tool in this dataset offers a free tier or meaningful trial. Midjourney removed its free trial in April 2023 and has not restored it. Basic membership starts at $10/mo.

CapCut Pro's stealth price increase. CapCut Pro ran at $7.99/mo in 2024. It now runs $19.99/mo — a 150% increase with no prominent announcement. Teams that were budget-benchmarking CapCut against other tools using 2024 data are underestimating it by $144/user/year.

Figma's annual-only requirement above Professional. Figma Pro is available monthly. Figma Organization ($45/editor/mo) and Enterprise ($90/editor/mo) are annual-only — no monthly option. A design team that grows mid-year and needs Organization features has to commit 12 months at $45/editor/mo.

Free Alternatives That Actually Work

Affinity Designer, Photo, Publisher — fully free. No subscription. No usage limits. Works offline. For freelancers and small studios that don't need cloud collaboration or Adobe's specific integration ecosystem, this is now the obvious default for design software.

DaVinci Resolve — full professional NLE at $0. The free version includes the full cut, color, Fusion VFX, and Fairlight audio workspaces. The $295 Studio upgrade breaks even against one year of Adobe Premiere Pro ($22.99/mo x 12 = $275.88) within the first year.

Penpot — open-source Figma alternative. The only open-source UI/UX design tool with a full Figma importer, SVG/CSS-native workflow, and a functional self-hosted option. Self-hosted is free forever. Cloud runs $9/editor/mo (capped at $175/mo for any team size).
